WE MAKE LITERACY A PRIORITY
Our Mission

As a program at the Burnaby Neighbourhood House, our mission is to work with community organizations to improve literacy initiatives in Burnaby, B.C. because literacy is the foundation of any new knowledge that enables citizens to live a good life.

What We Do

encourage community to add literacy

We work with community organizations to collaboratively identify literacy needs in Burnaby, encourage community efforts to add literacy components to current programs and to create new literacy initiatives where needed.

book donations

We distribute book donations from charitable organizations such as Literacy Abbotsford, Read On Canada and First Book Canada, to communities in Burnaby.

host clear language and design workshops

We host clear language and design workshops conducted by experts in the field for the members of the Burnaby Inter-Agency Council and other nonprofit organizations, in order to improve their ability to engage with the public.

public outreach assistance

We provide public outreach assistance to partner organizations such as the Burnaby Neighbourhood House, Frontier College and the Burnaby Early Childhood Development Table.

We provide literacy-related resources on our website and social media, intending to raise the profile of literacy and related programs.

The Literacy Now Burnaby Partnership

Literacy Now Burnaby is a task group whose members work in partnership with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and local government to build and enhance literacy services, programs, and networks in Burnaby.
The steward organization of Literacy Now Burnaby and the literacy outreach coordinator is the Burnaby Neighbourhood House.

Burnaby Neighbourhood House is a community-driven and community-funded agency located on the unceded territories of the Tsleil-Wauthuth (səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ), Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw), Qayqayt (qiqéyt), and Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) nations with a unique focus on neighbours supporting neighbours.
