After the wonderful time we had at the South Burnaby Summer Social, the celebration continued in North Burnaby with the Brentwood Summer Social 2025 on Thursday, August 14!
Rain or Shine, Community Spirit Shines Bright
Even though the day began with a little rain, the community spirit quickly shone through. Volunteers and staff set up tents to protect the books and activities, and before long the neighbourhood was buzzing with families, friends, and laughter.
The Literacy Now Burnaby Table: Books for Everyone
The Literacy Now Burnaby table was especially busy. Families and community members were excited to browse and take home free books. Foreign-language children’s books were particularly popular, showing just how much our diverse community values stories that reflect their cultures and languages.
Thanks to the tents and our amazing volunteers, the books stayed dry and accessible. We also had wonderful conversations with neighbours about the importance of literacy at home. It was inspiring to see how much joy these stories brought to kids and caregivers alike.
A True Summer Celebration
Of course, the event was filled with plenty of other fun too—a bouncy castle, music, delicious food, community resources, and activities for all ages made it a true celebration of summer and connection.
We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, braved the drizzle, and helped make the Brentwood Summer Social 2025 such a memorable event. Community gatherings like these remind us how important it is to come together, celebrate diversity, and share the joy of learning and literacy. We can’t wait for the next one!
