On July 24, 2025, Literacy Now Burnaby joined the South Burnaby Summer Social 2025 for an evening full of family-friendly fun, free books, and meaningful conversations about the power of literacy in our community.
From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the space at 4460 Beresford St. came alive with music, laughter, hands-on activities for all-ages, and the joyful energy of neighbours coming together.
Free Books and Big Smiles at the Summer Social
One of the highlights? Watching kids explore the book table, excitedly choosing their next favourite story to take home. Some start reading right then and there, eyes wide with curiosity and excitement.
We also heard from families about their reading routines, the books they love, and the role that literacy plays in their everyday lives. These are the stories we love most — real reminders of how reading brings people together.

At Literacy Now Burnaby, we believe literacy connects us all — it’s the foundation for learning, growth, and living a good life. Whether it’s reading a bedtime story, writing a thank-you card, or helping a neighbour fill out a form, literacy empowers us to support one another and thrive together.
